Young people and parents are often required to make decisions about cancer treatment. A common decision to be made is whether to enrol in a clinical trial. When making any treatment decision, it is integral that young people and their families are supported to understand their options and are given the opportunity to ask questions.
Check out our Delta animation below to learn about what clinical trials are and how they work.
What is Delta about?
Deciding whether to enrol in a clinical trial can be a difficult decision for many families. Our research informed us that families struggle to understand what clinical trials are about and how it will impact them. Families are also overwhelmed with information. To better support parents and young people deciding whether to enrol in a clinical trial, we developed the Delta decision aid. A decision aid is an information resource that also includes an activity to help individual's weigh up their preferences of two or more options. For Delta, this is the options of enrolling in a clinical trial or remaining on standard treatment. The Delta decision aid has been developed with an expert multidisciplinary team, including oncologists, clinical nurse consultants, psychologists, health researchers and families. We have evaluated this resource with families to make sure that it is safe, engaging and of benefit to them.
