Julia Baenziger
2018 Miss Julia Baenziger is a visiting PhD Candidate from the University of Lucerne, in Switzerland, and holds an MSc in Health Psychology & Psycho-Sociology. Starting her PhD studies in the research team of Prof Dr Gisela Michel, she investigated psychosocial long-term outcomes for parents of childhood cancer survivors, particularly interested in post-traumatic stress symptoms. During her stay at the BSU, Julia will be examining parents' experiences with the health-care system and their confidence in parenting, within the framework of Cascade. Ellen Gan
2018 Ellen completed a Bachelor's degree at the National University of Singapore in 2013. Following that, she worked as research officer in the National Cancer Centre, Singapore, on projects related to supportive care for individuals going through treatment for breast cancer, lymphomas, and sarcomas. Ellen spent 3 months working with the BSU, specifically on the Recapture Life and Sleep Study projects, to gain further research experience in Australia. She hopes to pursue a PhD in Australia in the future. |
Past Visitors
Laura Kukkola
2017 Miss Laura Kukkola completed a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Tampere in Finland, after which she worked as a psychologist assistant at the Finnish Institute for Occupational Health in Helsinki. She has also completed a Master’s degree in Clinical psychology at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, and is entering the second year of her PhD in which she is developing and testing online psychological support for parents of childhood cancer survivors. Jesper van Breeschoten
2016-2017 Mr Jesper van Breeschoten completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy at the Utrecht University in 2015 and is currently completing his Master of Pharmacy at the same university. As a part of his Masters’ program he is required to complete six months of pharmaceutical-related research abroad, which he is undertaking at the Behavioural Sciences Unit (BSU) and Centre for Health Economics Research and Evaluation (CHERE) at the University of Technology. Antonio do Nascimento
2016 Mr Antonio do Nascimento completed his Bachelor in Psychology at the Newton Paiva University Center, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. His honours thesis included an examination of behavioural strategies for children with cancer. He volunteered at the BSU for 6 months, and was involved in a number of research programs including Cascade and Recapture Life, as well as a new study investigating the experiences of culturally and linguistically diverse families affected by cancer. |
Ramon Tillemans
2015-2016 Mr Ramon Tillemans was a visiting student from the University of Utrecht, Netherlands. As a part of his Masters in Pharmacy, he joined the BSU to investigate the long term quality of life of paediatric cancers survivors, and their parents. Janine Vetsch
2016 Ms Janine Vetsch was a visiting PhD student from the University of Lucerne, in Switzerland. Ms Vetsch has prior studies in Biomedical Sciences and her research in Switzerland with Prof Gisela Michel related to the outcomes of parents of long-term childhood cancer survivors. She completed the final year of her PhD with the BSU, investigating the information needs and vocational disruption experienced by parents of childhood cancer survivors.
